Day 85 – 1st Feb – Alice Springs – Ayers Rock – Sydney
Another early start today as we drove back to Uluru from Alice springs. The drive was about 5-6 hours and we were dropped off at the airport at about 11:30am for our flight to Sydney. With the time difference we arrived into Sydney about 6pm and took the train to our air bnb apartment we had rented. It was lovely to have our own space after camping out in the bush and being on the tour for the previous 3 nights. We ordered a take away and watched some Australian tv!
Day 86 – 2nd Feb – Sydney
We got up and went for a walk into the city centre. Our apartment was only about a ten minute walk to the botanical gardens and we walked through there to see the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. We then walked to the Rocks and had a walk around the market and the streets around there. After this we went to Darling Harbour for some lunch and then went into the aquarium. The aquarium was really good as they have lots of different types of fish and also sharks! You walk through tunnels and the fish swim all around you, it’s really cool to see.
In the evening we went to meet Marina; our friend from the India tour for a couple of drinks. It was lovely to see her and have a catch up!
Day 87 – 3rd Feb – Sydney
We got up leisurely and decided to go and get the ferry across to Manly beach. We realised that when we set off we wouldn’t have much time at Manly but transport in Sydney on a Sunday is capped at $2.70 per person for the whole day including the ferries too so we thought it would be nice to have a trip around the harbour as well as have a closer look at the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. When we arrived in Manly we went to the beach but unfortunately didn’t have much time there are we had planned to meet up with Elise who was also on our India tour. The beach was also really busy as probably everyone else had the same idea in terms of the cheap transport! We got the ferry back to Circular Quay and were lucky enough to get a seat on the outside so we had great views. We disembarked the ferry and walked to the Opera Bar which is a really nice outdoor bar next to the Opera House. It was nice to have a catch up with Elise and see how she was getting on working in Sydney. After a couple of drinks in the sun we said our goodbyes and headed back to the apartment to enjoy a home cooked meal and watch some more TV!
Day 88 – 4th Feb – Sydney
We got up and got the ferry and then a bus to Coogee beach to start our Coogee to Bondi coastal walk. The walk is pretty spectacular as it hugs the coastline and has some incredible scenery including rock pools, bays and cliffs. We walked for just over an hour and then stopped at Bronte Beach and had our picnic lunch. Australia is really geared up for the outdoor life and in most parks / communal areas there are lots of covered picnic benches and free bbqs for people to use. After our picnic we set off again and walked to Bondi Beach. Bondi Beach is probably one of the most famous beaches in Australia and it was really busy! We sat for a little bit and grabbed a drink before getting the bus back to Bondi Junction train station and a train back to Kings Cross. That evening Dan cooked his first Ozzy bbq for us and we enjoyed our last night in Sydney in the apartment.
