Day 69 – 16th Jan – Khao Lak to Khao Sok
We got a private transfer from the hotel to Khao Sok. We picked up Matt and Danielle on route at their hotel and we were off! We arrived at the hotel about 1:30 and checked in. We were staying in a bungalow with 2 bedrooms, and it was really nice. We went to get some lunch in the restaurant and had a couple of beers! We got the shuttle into Khao Sok centre which was only small and was just one little street. We thought it would be a good idea to buy a hat as we were going on an overnight trip the next day into the National Park and the jungle. Matt, Dan and myself all bought caps! Armed in our caps looking cool we went to get another drink at happy hour. After this is was a bit of a blur, we remember gin, Celine Dion, Bielsa (Leeds manager) apparently resigning to the horror of Liz’s Dad, Matt swinging his legs and video calling on whatsapp!
Day 70 – 17th Jan – Khao Sok National Park
We were hungover! We had an early pick up for our overnight trip in Khao Sok National Park. We got our transfer to the pier and got a boat for about an hour and a half to the floating bungalows on the lake. We checked into our little bungalow and had some lunch. We then had a choice of a 3-4 hour jungle trek to a wet cave or staying by the bungalow and kayaking and swimming. We all chose the kayaking option! It was really peaceful on the lake and we spent the afternoon in the water. Mid afternoon it started raining really heavily so we went to the main area and sat and played cards for a bit. There is only electricity on the bungalows for 4 hours a day; 6:30-10:30pm. After dinner we had an early night as we had an early morning start.
Day 71 – 18th Jan – Khao Sok National Park to Khao Sok
We were up at 6:15am to get ready for our jungle safari. We thought we were going on a walk, however it turned out we just stayed on the boat! We saw different monkeys in the jungle jumping through the trees which was really cool to see. After this we went back to the floating bungalows for breakfast and to check out. From here we went to a dry cave and for a walk around and then got the boat back to the mainland. After a brief stop for lunch we got the shuttle back to our hotel where Matt’s parents were waiting for us for our afternoon activity! They had got a taxi from to come to the elephant sanctuary with us. We checked back into the hotel we were in before the bungalow tour and got changed for the elephant experience. We were going to feed and bathe the elephants. The elephants were rescue elephants and both female aged 41 and 46. After we had fed the elephants and had photos with them we then went into the mud with the elephants and gave them a mud spa! After this we walked to the river to clean the elephants with brushes made from coconuts. The elephants got quite playful and started squirting water at us! It was a great afternoon!
We got back to the bungalows and got showered and cleaned all the mud off us! We then got a taxi into Khao Sok town to have dinner together as a 6 for the last time on our trip. Overall it was a great day!
Day 72 – 19th Jan – Khao Sok to Koh Phi Phi
We checked out of our hotel and got picked up about 9am. It was quite a long transfer today as we were driving to Koh Phi Phi. We got the bus to Krabi and then a ferry to the island. A couple of hours later we arrived into Phi Phi. We checked into our hotel along with Matt and Danielle. We got some late lunch and then went to a bar to watch the sun set. Matt and I had been in Phi Phi about 10 years ago to the day and we were amazed at how much it had changed. There was now a McDonald’s on the island and a lot more development had taken place. Nevertheless it was still a really cool place and we watched the sun go down and then headed into the centre area for some more drinks. We went to a bar which had live music playing. It was really good atmosphere and we stayed there all night!
Day 73 – 20th January – Koh Phi Phi
We woke up quite late and had quite a chilled steady day. Dan and I went for a walk around the shops and went for a late breakfast. After this we went to get our stuff for the beach and walked there and hired kayaks. We kayaked to monkey beach which was quite close and got off there. The water was so clear and as we were kayaking and we spent some time watched the fish swim past us! Monkey beach is quite self explanatory, it is a beach with monkeys on it! The monkeys are really tame as they are so used to tourists and one came running at me and jumped up at me as I was carrying a water bottle. Another monkey jumped up at the dry bag that Dan was carrying and was hanging from the bag as Dan was holding it! Luckily for us another monkey came and pulled the other’s tail to distract it and it stopped following us! After this we kayaked back to the main beach and went for a massage. At this point we had been in South East Asia for nearly 8 weeks and this was the first massage we’d had!
In the evening we met up with Matt and Danielle and a couple of other friends of theirs for dinner for our final night together. We had a couple of drinks and enjoyed our last night in Thailand. We had both really enjoyed our time in Thailand and we would both happily go back again.
