Krabi & Khao Lak – 9th -15th January 2019

Day 62 – 9th Jan – Koh Lanta – Krabi – We had booked a transfer from the hotel and got picked up at 11:30am. We went via mini van and car ferry and arrived into Ao Nang about 3ish. We checked into our hotel and then got the free shuttle from the hotel which dropped us off at the beach and we had a little walk around getting our bearing.  We walked back up towards our hotel and stopped off at a bar where we met Matt and Danielle.  We were all excited at meeting up and carried on the drinking including a couple of buckets! We eventually got home at 2:45am after a great night in Ao Nang!

Day 63 – 10th Jan – Krabi
Slow day! Dan was a bit hungover and stayed in the room for most of the day. Liz went to go and sit by the pool. In the evening we went to Matt and Danielle’s hotel and sat outside and had a couple of drinks and a pretty chilled evening playing uno!

Day 64 – 11th Jan – Krabi
We got the shuttle into the town centre of Ao Nang and got a long tail boat to Railay Beach. We spent the morning on the beach and had lunch. Railay beach was nice and we had a nice morning together.  In the afternoon we met Matt back at Ao Nang and were planning on getting the boat to Poda. Unfortunately we had to wait for some more people to come before the boat would leave and after 45 minutes we gave up and headed to a beach bar instead! It was lovely sat watching the sun go down. In the evening we went back to Matt and Danielle’s hotel for a drink or two and then the two of us went for dinner. A couple of Matt’s friends were also in Ao Nang and we went to meet them after dinner.

Day 65 – 12th Jan – Krabi to Khao Lak
We got a transfer in the morning to Khao Lak where Matt’s parents were staying. We checked into the hotel and went for a walk into the village. As we were walking into town the owner of the hotel drove past us and gave us a lift! He dropped us off at the market and we had a walk around. We stopped off at a restaurant and had a late lunch. In the evening we walked into town and met up with Matt, Danielle and Matt’s parents for dinner. We had a nice meal and then walked further into town and went for a cocktail before heading back to our hotel

Day 66 – 13th Jan – Khao Lak
After breakfast we cycled to Matt’s parents hotel to spend the day as a six. Before we set off the owner of the hotel had asked for Dan’s help to check the tyres on the bikes. Twenty five minutes later he returned looking very hot. It turned out he had to walk his bike to a local shop while the owner rode his! When Dan arrived at the shop he had to pump up the tyres on both bikes! When he came back we set off and cycled about thirty minutes to the hotel. The hotel was lovely! It was right on the beach and Matt’s parents had reserved sun loungers for the six of us! We swam in the sea, however we didn’t stay in too long as we think there were sea lice in the water as we felt like we were being stung / prickled! After this we stuck to the pool! The pool was huge, the biggest in south east Asia and if you swum around it all, it was a mile long!
We cycled back to the hotel late afternoon and then got ready for the evening. Dan and I stopped at a bar on route to the restaurant and then met Matt and his parents for dinner. Danielle didn’t come out this evening so it was just the five of us. We had a nice meal and then went for a drink before going back to the hotel.

Day 67 – 14th Jan – Khao Lak
We hired bikes today and cycled to the waterfall nearish to our hotel. It was a lovely cycle through the jungle to get there. When we arrived we were rather hot as everyone else there had travelled by moped / scooter and it was just the two of us that cycled in the heat! We walked up to the waterfall and spent some time there before we cycled back. The waterfall was nice and quite shady so it was nice to cool down a bit! When we got back we jumped into the pool to cool down after the cycle! We had an afternoon by the pool and then went out for dinner just the two of us that evening.

Day 68 – 15th Jan – Khao Lak
Today the six of us had a day trip booked to the Similan Islands. There are nine islands in total numbered 1-9. Islands 1-3 are turtle conservation areas so people are not allowed to visit those. We got picked up about 7:45am and taken to the pier. From here we got a speedboat for about an hour and a half to the first island where we were stopping at; island number 4. This stop was for chilling on the beach and swimming in the sea, the water was unbelievably blue and the sand white. We stayed here for about an hour and then got back on the boat for the next stop which was island 7 for snorkelling. We jumped off the boat and snorkelled for about 40 minutes in the sea on a coral reef. We saw loads of fish! The next stop was island number 8 for lunch. We had a picnic and then Dan, Matt and I walked up to the rocks and viewing platform on the island. It was a really good view over the islands. After this was our final stop at island number 9 for more snorkelling. This area had bigger fish to see and big schools of fish that swum really close to the surface. We then got the speedboat back to the main land, picked up our souvenir of a plate with our photo on it and then went back to the hotel.
Tonight was our last night all together as a six so Dan and I got a taxi up to Matt’s parents hotel. We had a drink in their hotel overlooking the beach and the sunset before having dinner at one of the beach restaurants. It had been a really lovely day!
