Siem Reap & Koh Rong Samloem – 14th – 22nd December 2018

Day 36 – 14th December – Hoi An – Siem Reap
Dan picked his shoes this morning before our flight to Cambodia. Yet again this was another quite stressful flight as we had a connection in Hanoi but the flight there was delayed. When we landed in Hanoi we had a sign waiting for us when we got off the plane as we needed to change terminals for international departures. We just made check in and got upgraded to exit seats for free!
We arrived in Siem Reap and got picked up from the hotel shuttle. It was a very nice hotel and Dan had done well again!

Day 37 – 15th December- Siem Reap
We spent the day by the pool and booked a driver for the next day via trip advisor to take us to Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples.
In the evening we went out to near pub street for a couple of drinks and dinner.

Day 38 – 16th December- Siem Reap
Today was a really early start ready for our Angkor Wat sunrise tour! Dan was not happy at the 3:50am alarm! The driver was waiting for us in reception at 4:30 and took us to pick up the tickets and then onto Angkor Wat for sunrise. Wow it was incredible! You can’t really put into words how amazing it was to see.  The driver waited for us all day and took us to various different temples including Bayan (where we had a guide), Terrace of the Elephants and surrounding temples and the tomb raider temple (Ta Prohm) as well. It was a very hot day but the driver greeted us with water and cold towels after each temple. We arrived back at the hotel about 2:30pm and had a late lunch and then spent the rest of the day at the pool! It was needed after such a long day walking around in the heat and the very early start! Overall it was a great day!

Day 39 – 17th December – Siem Reap
Today we had a very relaxing day by the pool and in the evening we went to Pub Street which was very similar to the Khao San Road in Bangkok.  Overall a very chilled day!

Day 40 – 18th December – Siem Reap – Sihanoukville
Dan used his charms to negotiate a late check out so we had a day by the pool and checked out of our room at 6pm. We got the 8:30pm overnight sleeper bus to Sihanoukville. Quite an experience – there were full beds on a bus!

Day 41 – 19th December – Koh Rong Samloem
We arrived into Sihanoukville really early approx 5:45am. We went to the ferry terminal and booked a ferry for 8am.  We arrived at Koh Rong Samloem about 9am and there was a small tender boat waiting for us to take us up the beach to our accommodation – Sweet Dreams.  It was totally idyllic with white sand and crystal clear waters. We couldn’t check in until 1pm so we sat on the beach watched the world go by and had a snooze!
After check in we went into the water for a swim and in the evening walked up the beach and had a few drinks followed by dinner at Sara Resort.

Day 42 – 20th December – Koh Rong Samloem
Today we decided to venture to the other side of the island to Lazy Beach.  To get there we had to walk through the jungle and saw a couple of monkeys on route.  Lazy beach as the name suggests was very quiet and chilled out and had really clear waters to swim in.  We spent the afternoon swimming in the sea and sunbathing.
In the evening we went for a walk along the beach and stopped at the various beach bars on the way and had dinner.

Day 43 – 21st December – Koh Rong Samloem
Another very peaceful chilled out day on the island.  It was our last night and we worked out we could spend another night if we wanted to as the earliest ferry would arrive in Sihanoukville in plenty of time for our flight the next day. We tried to extend our stay by 1 night but everywhere was fully booked due to Christmas so we enjoyed our last day on the beach and in the sea.

Day 44 – 22nd December – Koh Rong Samloem – Sihanoukville
We checked out of our little bungalow on the beach and took the tender boat to the main pier for our ferry back to the mainland. We got a taxi to our accommodation which we were only in for 1 night and then went to find some lunch. We went to the hostel next door and saw my old personal trainer from Pudsey pure gym who started travelling at the same as we did but she is travelling for 2 years! It’s a small world! We went back to our room and had a chill. Sihanoukville was being developed so much as a tourism destination by the Chinese and it was quite dirty and dusty. We went out for dinner and then had an early night ready for our flight  to Malaysia the next day.
