Bangkok – 28th Nov – 1st Dec 2018

Day 21 – Bangkok
We arrived into Bangkok quite late from our flight from Delhi.  We took the train from the airport into the centre of Bangkok, however we then got lost and had to flag a taxi to take us the last part.  We checked into the hotel, which was lovely and totally different from hotels in India.  We had a couple of drinks and food in the hotel before we went to bed.
Day 22 – Bangkok
We had a very chilled out day by the rooftop pool in our hotel.  In the evening we had decided we were going to go to the backpacker district for a few drinks.  We got a taxi to the Khao San Road.  It was great to see. There were stalls selling clothes, massage places and street food vendors selling lots of different types of insects such as scorpions and tarantulas.  Needless to say we declined these as our dinner option! We went for a couple of drinks just off the main street and watched the world go by!  We used our negotiation skills to get a tuk tuk back to the hotel for what we thought was a reasonable price, no idea if it was or wasn’t though to be honest!!
Day 23 – Bangkok
Today we had a big sight seeing day planned as it was our last full day in Bangkok.  In hindsight we both wished we had spent a couple more days here as there is a lot to do and see.  We left the hotel and got the skytrain and the metro to the Chao Phraya river where decided to do a hop on hop off river tour to see some of the main sites of the city. The first  stop was The Grand Palace (Tha Maharaj) and The Emerald Buddha.  Wow, it was impressive! The buildings were so highly decorated and beautiful, the only downside was how crowded it was, I would avoid going around lunchtime like we did!
Next we got back onto the boat and sailed past Wat Arun (The Temple of the Dawn) and Wat Po (The Temple of the Reclining Buddha).  We decided not to stop at these and carry on instead to Ratchawongse AKA Chinatown!  Chinatown was really good to see and we were both glad we stopped there.  We walked around the streets and found the market which we both enjoyed walking around and seeing the local food on display. After this, we decided to get the boat back to the metro station and go back to the hotel. Bangkok is a really big city and travelling round takes longer than you think!  After a quick stop we went out to the area around the hotel for food and some drinks (Sukhumvit).  What we did both notice about Bangkok was how modern and ‘Western’ it was in terms of designer shops and large shopping malls and therefore how this was reflected in the prices, we found it to be quite expensive.  We went to a place near the hotel for a cider and it cost approx. £7.50! It was no Wetherspoons!  That being said, we both really liked Bangkok and would definitely go back again.
